Implementing Close-to-Nature Silviculture in Small Forest Holdings
>>>> POSTPONED TO 20 FEBRUARY 2026 <<<<
We are thrilled to announce the second seminar of the Laurus Network: “Implementing Close-to-Nature Silviculture in Small Forest Holdings”.
📆 Date: 17 December 2025
🕚 Time: 11:00–12:30 CET
✍🏽 Registration: free (link for registration will soon be available)
📋 Structure: 1.5-hour webinar with expert presentations + 30-minute Q&A session
The Laurus network continues its training activities by organising a new webinar on the topic of Close-to-Nature Forestry and its practical application in small forest properties.
The webinar is aimed at technical staff from European forestry associations, as well as forest owners, consultants, political authorities and anyone interested in this approach to forest management.
Close-to-nature forestry is considered a sustainable and adaptive forest management strategy, particularly relevant in the face of climate change. Its main objective is to manage forests by imitating natural processes, seeking a balance between the sustainable production of forest resources, the conservation of biodiversity and the resilience of ecosystems.
The benefits of this form of management include:
- Greater Resilience and Adaptation:
It promotes species diversity (mixed forests) and a diverse age structure, which reduces vulnerability to pests, diseases, gales and droughts, improving the forest’s ability to adapt to climate change. - Improved Biodiversity:
It promotes the natural structure of the forest ecosystem (including old trees, dead wood and undergrowth) essential for various species of flora and fauna, maximising their habitats while increasing species richness. - Soil and Water Protection:
By avoiding clear-cutting or other aggressive practices and promoting continuous forest cover, soil erosion is minimised and water regulation in the forest is optimised. - High Wood Value:
By focusing on the selection of older, higher-quality trees (mature wood), there is a tendency to obtain a continuous production of wood with high commercial value, improving long-term profitability. - Ecosystem Services:
Strengthens the protective functions of the forest, such as carbon capture and landscape and recreational value enhancement, aligning economic production with ecological conservation.
The webinar will be given by Isaac Fernández and Iñaki Etxebeste, technicians from Selviaula, an initiative aimed at providing practical training for forestry professionals.
Those interested in learning how forest owners can improve the profitability of their forests while maintaining ecological integrity, and in seeing real examples of the successful implementation of this strategy, can attend this webinar free of charge.
