The Laurus network continues its training activities by organising a new webinar on the topic of Close-to-Nature Forestry and its practical application in small forest properties.
Continuous Cover Forestry, why this management approach can be attractive for private forest owners
Even if Continuous Cover Forestry (CCF) was defined over a century ago, its potential to boost forest resilience and adaptation to global changes has lately created a renewed interest. CCF has been often linked to the management of public or large private forests, yet there are numerous examples that show otherwise.
By taking advantage of natural dynamics investments are greatly reduced. Frequent and small harvests spread the income temporally, and spatially. While economical risks are minimized the logistics of each action have to be carefully planned in order to achieve positive economical results. The improvement of the stands’ economical and ecological value through selective marking of trees plays a crucial role; well managed CCF stands can reach unforeseen standing values in many regions of Europe. Across Europe, evidence is still developing in places, so the financial outcomes depend on your forest type and practical context—species, terrain, and local markets.
In this webinar you will learn the main principles of CCF, how this approach translates into practical advantages and tangible benefits, real examples from established practice in some regions and what practical factors to consider before applying it in your own forest.
The webinar will be given by Iñaki Etxebeste, technician from Selviaula, an initiative aimed at providing practical training for forestry professionals.
Those interested in learning how forest owners can improve the profitability of their forests while maintaining ecological integrity, and in seeing real examples of the successful implementation of this strategy, can attend this webinar free of charge.
The link to the recorded session will be accessible to registered Laurus network members once the webinar has taken place.
